Planning the 2026–27 season
A few things worth sorting before you drive up, because they change what the weekend costs and how early you need to move.
The pass. Jack Frost Big Boulder is a Vail Resorts property, and both mountains sit on the Epic Pass and Epic Local Pass — one pass, two mountains, no second ticket to cross between them. Passes for 2026/27 are already on sale. New this season, the resort is advertising 20% off the Epic Pass and Epic Local Pass for adults 30 and under, plus new pricing for ages 13–17 — worth checking if your group skews young, because it can change the maths on pass-versus-tickets for a single long weekend.
Buy tickets before you come. Jack Frost Big Boulder is telling visitors that lift tickets will be limited this season and to buy in advance rather than turning up at the window. For a group of fourteen that is not a detail — arriving without tickets on a Saturday in January is how a ski day becomes a hot-tub day. Buying ahead also loads everything into the My Epic app, which turns your phone into your pass and carries lift-line status, interactive trail maps and live webcams.
Opening dates. As of late September 2026 the resort had not yet posted an opening date for 2026/27 — its site still showed the previous season as closed, and hiring for winter 2026/27 was under way. Pocono opening dates ride on cold enough nights for snowmaking, so if you are eyeing early December, watch jfbb.com for the announcement before you commit. Holiday weeks here book out well before the mountain says a word.
If you add a Camelback day. Camelback is a separate company on a separate pass — it sells its own Peak Pass, so an Epic Pass will not get you through the gate there. Its indoor waterpark, Aquatopia, and the mountain coaster run outside ski season too, which makes it the usual rainy-day or no-snow fallback for groups with younger kids. If you are up in the fall rather than deep winter, Camelbeach runs a Halloween event, The Curse of Camelback, through November 8.

Three minutes by car — about 1.5 miles. You can see Big Boulder’s lit slopes from the front deck. Jack Frost is a 5-minute drive, and one lift ticket covers both mountains.
Does the house work for two families skiing together?
That is its sweet spot: 5 bedrooms and 7 beds sleep up to 14, every bedroom has its own 65-inch TV, and the speakeasy game room keeps kids and adults happily separated in the evening.
Is there somewhere to dry ski gear?
Yes — a laundry room with washer/dryer plus entry space for boots and bibs. The gravel driveway fits several vehicles including roof boxes.
Is the hot tub really usable in January?
It is the whole point of January. The 6-person hot tub runs year-round, and the 8-person cedar sauna next to it makes the classic sauna-then-snow round trip irresistible.
When should we book for ski season?
Holiday weeks (Christmas–New Year, MLK, Presidents’ Day) go first — by late fall they are usually gone. January and February weekends follow. Weekdays stay open longest and ski far quieter.
