Race Weekend at Pocono Raceway, 10 Minutes from Our Door
Pocono Raceway — the Tricky Triangle — sits a 10-minute drive from our chalet, close enough that you can sleep in, grill breakfast, and still beat the interstate crowd to the gates. Our 5-bedroom house in Lake Harmony Estates sleeps 14, which happens to be about the size of the crew most race groups wish they could keep under one roof.
We're Doug, Nicholas, and Kellie, and we've hosted plenty of race weekends here — our guests rate the house 5.0 stars, part of 790 guest reviews averaging 4.93 stars across our properties over 7 years of hosting. Here's exactly how we'd run the weekend, from our driveway to the checkered flag.
What races run at Pocono Raceway?
Pocono hosts a full NASCAR national-series weekend every summer, capped by the Cup Series race — the Great American Getaway 400 — on Sunday afternoon. The track is a 10-minute drive from our chalet.
The weekend runs three days: the ARCA Menards Series races Friday, a NASCAR national-series race runs Saturday alongside Cup practice and qualifying, and the Cup cars run 400 miles on Sunday. The track itself is a 2.5-mile triangle with three completely different corners, which is why drivers treat it like three tracks in one. Recent editions have landed in June — the 2026 weekend ran June 12–14 — after years of July dates, so confirm the current dates on Pocono Raceway's official schedule before you lock in your stay.
Why lodging sells out on race weekend
Long Pond, the village around the track, has almost no lodging of its own — so race fans book out nearly every house and hotel within a half hour of the gates, often months ahead. Nightly rates everywhere surge accordingly.
The math is simple: tens of thousands of fans funnel into one rural township for a single weekend, driving in from New York (about 2 hours from our door) and Philadelphia (about 1.5 hours). A house 10 minutes from the track that sleeps 14 is exactly the kind of listing that goes first. If you know your crew is going, check our calendar as soon as NASCAR announces dates — and see why booking direct keeps the total lower for a group this size.
Race-day route and traffic tips
From Lake Harmony Estates you reach the track on local back roads in about 10 minutes — no I-80 merge required. That's the single biggest advantage of staying here instead of along the interstate corridor.
While out-of-town traffic stacks up at the highway exits near Blakeslee, the Long Pond Road approach from our side stays comparatively sane. A few rules we give every race group:
- Leave early anyway. Gates open at 8 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday, lots open about two hours before gate times, and the track recommends being parked by 10 a.m. on Cup Sunday.
- Caravan together. Two or three cars from one house park side by side and tailgate as one camp.
- After the race, don't fight it. Tailgate at your car until the lots thin out — or crawl the 10 minutes home and let the hot tub absorb the traffic report.
Track tips: parking, coolers, and scanners
Grandstand parking at Pocono is free, and the track lets you carry in your own cooler — up to 14 x 14 x 14 inches, no glass. That combination makes it one of the most tailgate-friendly stops in NASCAR.
Beer, soda, water, and food are all fine in your cooler for general grandstand seating (premium club areas exclude coolers), and tailgating beside your vehicle is allowed as long as you're not blocking a roadway. For audio, rent a scanner at the track to hear driver and team radios, or use the free NASCAR Tracks app — and pack real ear protection either way, because Cup cars at speed are no joke. Sunscreen matters too; shade is scarce. Policies do shift year to year, so skim the current Pocono fan guide the week you go.
What a group of 14 saves by staying together
One house that sleeps 14 replaces six or seven hotel rooms — and on a surge-priced race weekend, splitting one nightly rate fourteen ways is the whole ballgame. Our chalet gives you 5 bedrooms, 7 beds, 2.5 baths, and 2,000+ sq ft, 10 minutes from the gates.
| Race-day need | Scattered hotel rooms | One chalet |
|---|---|---|
| Morning fuel | 14 people through a lobby breakfast | Full kitchen plus a Viking grill, one big cook |
| Cooler prep | Ice runs from a mini-fridge | Pack every 14-inch cooler from a real kitchen |
| Watching practice and qualifying | One small TV per room | 8 smart 65" TVs on 1 GB WiFi |
| Post-race debrief | Texting across a hallway | Hot tub, fire pit, and the billiard room |

The rest of the weekend: hot tub, fire pit, and bars you can walk to
The Cup race fills Sunday afternoon; the rest of the weekend belongs to the house and the lake. Nothing on this list requires a car except the day trips.
- At the house: the 6-person hot tub and 8-person wet/dry sauna undo a day in the grandstands, the fire pit with 10 Adirondack chairs handles the post-race storytelling, and the speakeasy billiard room with its 8-foot pool table and wet bar runs late. The 20-foot lighted gazebo seats 10 for dinner outside.
- A short walk away: Nick's Lake House serves lakefront dinners with two full bars and live music in summer, and Shenanigans keeps its kitchen and bar going late on weekends. The Lake Harmony Estates beach is walking distance too — more in our summer guide.
- If you have a free morning: Hickory Run State Park's Boulder Field is 20 minutes away, Jim Thorpe is 20 minutes, and Kalahari Resort's waterpark is 25 minutes.
The house is pet-friendly with a fully fenced quarter-acre backyard, so the dog comes to race weekend too. When dates drop, book the house direct — race weekend is the first one on our calendar to go.
Frequently Asked Questions
How far is The Lake Harmony Chalet from Pocono Raceway?
The track in Long Pond is a 10-minute drive on local back roads, so you avoid most of the interstate race traffic. Big Boulder (3 minutes) and Jack Frost (5 minutes) are even closer if you want scenery on an off day.
Can we bring a cooler into Pocono Raceway?
Yes — coolers up to 14 x 14 x 14 inches are allowed in general grandstand seating, with beer, soda, water, and food permitted but no glass. Premium club areas exclude coolers, and policies can change, so check the track's current fan guide before race day.
When is the NASCAR race at Pocono?
Pocono hosts one NASCAR Cup Series weekend each summer, with the Cup race on Sunday afternoon after two days of support-series racing. Recent editions have run in June — June 12 to 14 in 2026 — so confirm current dates on Pocono Raceway's official schedule before booking.
How early should we book lodging for Pocono race weekend?
As soon as the race dates are announced — houses within a short drive of the track sell out months ahead, and a 14-person house near the gates goes first. Booking our chalet direct locks the weekend without platform fees stacked on top of surge pricing.
